BAHAWALPUR:

As many as 60 people were taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Friday when they fell ill after consuming substandard sweets. Of these, four people were in a critical condition.

A police spokesman told newsmen that Sachoo, a resident of Kot Samba had purchased sweets from Nazar Abbas’s shop and had distributed them among his neighbours over Eid.

He said those who ate the sweets had fallen ill soon afterwards. He said some of them fainted and were taken to a rural health centre from where they were referred to Shaikh Zayed Hospital. He said most people had been discharged after a few hours, however, four had been admitted in a critical condition.

The spokesman said an FIR had been registered. He said Sachoo and Abbas had been arrested.
