ISLAMABAD: With construction costs estimated at $260 million, Gwadar International Airport would be capable of handling the largest of passenger planes including the A380 Boeing jet.

The entire amount would come in the form of a grant from the Chinese government, the Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was informed in its recently held meeting here.

Additionally, the Chinese government has given a grant of $10 million for building the Pakistan-China Vocational and Technical Training Institute to help locals acquire skills.

Gwadar Port Authority Chairman also informed the committee that the water problem of Gwadar was being sorted out with the construction of Sawad dam where water would be provided to Gwadar through a 83km pipeline and the water shortage of Gwadar would be resolved in that manner.

khan | 8 years ago | Reply 260million to build airport, government only needs to take zardari and nawaz ill-gotten properties, just 25% of these properties would be enough to build this airport and rest for building dams, infrastructure, roads, bridges, railways stations and electric new cables in the country. Left over pay for refugees to go home.

And now they are building an airport for their comfirt with the help of Chinese. They could have asked the Chinese to give us 60 billion for education. It's just another topi drama

Where is the demand? The port has become a focal point for CPEC - but when you blow through the political smoke CPEC is essentially a series of power plants with some roads/pipelines/port tossed in by Pakistan political elite to create an illusion of prosperity and international clout. It's apparent that the Establishment is making major money on CPEC (hint - no bid contracts) combined with the fact that Pakistani newspapers tend to treat CPEC like they do OBL/Abbottabad. When in doubt - someone point out a single article which explains CPEC in total - what projects - what benefit - how it's going to be re-paid.
