In a round of Toss Up with Deepak Perwani, the talented designer gives us the wittiest answers. From the strangest question he’s ever been asked, to sharing who makes it on his best-dressed list, the fashion mogul shares it all

1. What has been your favourite collection of your own till date?

The ‘Flights of Fantasy’ collection that we showcased in Milan.

2. What is your favourite ad campaign?

Years ago there was this YSL campaign where the man had a snake wrapped around him. I love that, and Keira Knightly in the Chanel Coco Mademoiselle perfume ad.



3. What’s your favourite festival?

Holi – and my birthday, which is on Christmas!

4. What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

I’ve received many gifts, but my favourite would be the one I got this one time on Valentine’s Day. I got a dozen of every kind of flower in the city from an anonymous admirer — though I received no SMS, call, or letter after that.

5. One habit you wish you could break?

Smoking.

6. What would the title of your autobiography be?

The Bad Boy of Pakistani Fashion.



7. What songs are on your playlist right now?

Gabriel by Lamb.

8. Who do you think is the best-dressed in Pakistan today?

Atiya Khan and Shehrbano Taseer.

9. Who did you text last and what does it say?

I texted my lawyers to let them know I’m on my way to them.

10. What was the best vacation you ever took and why is it
your favourite?

A couple of years ago, a bunch of friends and I decided to go to Spain after watching Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. We all flew from wherever we were in the world and went around different cities in Spain and did lots of adventurous things, just like in the movie.



11. Who would you love to design for, and what would you make them?

I would love to design for Natalie Portman, and I would make her a beautiful evening ball gown.

12. What is on the top of your wish-list?

My upcoming holiday in New York!

13. What is your first thought when you wake up in the morning?

I better run, I’m getting late for work.



14. What would you change about the fashion industry in Pakistan?

Fashion journalism, and people with bloated egos who give themselves too much self-importance.

15. Favourite home cooked food?

Daal chawal and butter chicken, for sure.

16. What is the best thing about living in Karachi?

It’s a harsh city, but this is home.

17. If you could swap places with anyone for a day, who would it be and what would you do?

I’d swap places with the Prime Minister and resign. Then I would get a better-looking President for the country.



18. Strangest question you’ve ever been asked?

Every time I go out with my mother, I’m asked if she is my sister.

19. What is your favourite movie of all-time?

I’ve watched What’s Up, Doc, Pretty Woman, and Clueless so many times.

20. Your favourite moment of 2016?

It is yet to come!
