ISLAMABAD: World leadership should play a key and responsible role in addressing challenges to the Muslim Ummah to contain the increasing influence of terrorist organisations. This was said by speakers from different schools of thought and religious sects at Protection for Harmain-e-Sharifain and Masjid al-Aqsa Conference on Friday.

Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Tahir Ashrafi --- the chair of the conference --- said that conspiracies were being hatched against Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, adding that prevailing endeavours to create sectarian violence in Yemen and Bahrain were tantamount to creating distrust in Saudi Arabia. All external elements should abstain from intervening in the affairs of Muslim countries, he said.

China can mistreat Muslims, but others can’t?

Ashrafi said any conspiracy to foil the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will not be tolerated. He also resolved that PUC will continue its efforts for elimination of terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence from the country and also vowed to speed up its endeavours at international level.

The Muslim world has not forgotten the oppression against the people of Palestine and the siege of Gaza, and unity among Muslims is the sole and ultimate solution to Israeli aggression, he maintained.

PUC Islamabad President Abdul Hameed Sabri stated that any move to make trouble for security of Harmain-e-Sharifain will not be tolerated. He said that anti-Islam elements were making trouble in Muslim countries to divert attention from the issue of Al Aqsa and Palestine, but Muslims would continue efforts for the cause.

The conference also condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Turkey, Afghanistan and Lebanon, stating that elements killing innocent people were not Muslims, nor did they have any link with Islam.

Al-Quds rally

Meanwhile, the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan (SUC) held rallies in twin cities to mark Quds Day, with Central Secretary Arif Hussain Wahidi stating that rallies, seminars and conferences are held nationwide to commemorate the Palestinians quest for self-determination.

Myanmar must 'urgently' end abuses against Muslims: UN envoy

He condemned Israeli human rights violations in the occupied territories and said the international community is showing a double standard through its silence.

Other speakers also voiced their support for the Palestinian people and cause.
