KARACHI: The first spell of monsoon, which lasted for two days in the coastal city of Karachi, is over. However, according to the weather forecast shared by the meteorological (Met) office, ‘more is yet to come’.

“Currently what we are experiencing is a dry spell with hot weather persistent in our midst,” Met office director Abdul Rashid told The Express Tribune. “The temperature will fall today within the jurisdiction of Karachi [and] will be in between 35oC to 37oC.”

Monsoon rain cripples Karachi

Talking about the dry spell in the city, he explained that temperature will slightly fall by this [Friday] evening when sea breeze will start to move towards the land of Karachi, leading to a cooler weather condition.

Rashid said that the first spell of monsoon, which lasted for two days, is over. However, he added, there is more to come till the monsoon season is over. He said that the season will end by September 15.



The recorded downpour in the coastal city on the first day of rain, June 28, was: 43.4mm at Karachi Airport, 32.4mm at Nazimabad, 24mm at Gulistan-e-Jauhar, 17mm at Masroor Base, 17mm at Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 15mm at Faisal Base, 15mm at Saddar and 12mm at Landhi.

The recorded rain for the other parts of the city for June 29 were as follows: 34mm at Faisal Base, 28mm at Landhi, 18mm at Saddar, 14mm at Gulistan-e-Jauhar, 22.4mm at Karachi Airport, 5mm at Masroor Base, 10mm at Gulshan-e-Hadeed and 10.6mm at Nazimabad.
