FAISALABAD: Water and Sanitation Authority Vice Chairman Mian Irfan Manan said on Wednesday that arrangements to drain rainwater during monsoon season are complete. He said generators that power the pumps to drain rainwater would be installed at low-lying areas and vacuums would remove rainwater from main roads. He said WASA machinery was available to ensure cleanliness of sewerage lines during monsoon. He said nine Emergency Flood Centres had been set up in various parts of the city. “We have also arranged for special squads to cope with any emergency.” He said that he had warned WASA staff of stern action in case negligence and carelessness.

He said a master plan had been prepared with the cooperation of experts from Japan. Under the plan, special drains would be constructed alongside roads to drain water. “This plan will help us solve the problem of drainage of rainwater, sewerage and access to safe drinking water for next 30 years,” he said.
