Green carpet round-up: White is the new black

KARACHI: Last weekend, Madrid witnessed Bollywood’s finest celebrities bring their fashion A-game to the green carpet of the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2016. From traditional embroidered dresses to contemporary lehengas, B-town’s most well-dressed divas sashayed on the carpet, while staying true to their unique style and showcasing some inspiring looks. This year, lighter hues were trendsetters, with most stars opting for shades of whites, complementing the breezy hot weather. Here is a list of our top three contenders who progressively set precedents for the year’s most coveted red carpet looks.

Deepika Padukone



17th IIFA was all about Deepika. Be it strolling around the streets of Madrid or owning every look with her ethereal elegance to winning the Best Female Actor award for Piku, the starlet has given us some serious style goals. For the big night, the 30-year-old chose a Sabyasachi Mukherjee ensemble, inspired by Spanish bull fighters and a Godet skirt with a cape. The off-white floral embellishments and netted cape, accompanied with emerald green statement jewellery made her look like a fierce goddess.

Athiya Shetty



This new star kid in town is known for her distinctive fashion statement and for Bollywood’s biggest award show, she didn’t fail to impress. Donning a Rami Kadi embroidered pinkish white tail dress, Shetty wore long wavy locks, minimal make-up and a pink pout. Needless to say, she looked effortlessly chic and is definitely a new-age style icon.

Sonakshi Sinha



Sinha is often known for her bold opinions and boisterous personality, but for IIFA 2016, the 29-year-old starlet brought her graceful side on the carpet. Wearing a floral Abujani Sandeep Khosla creation paired with a tight up-do, black winged eye-liner and scarlet lips, she had a perfect princess moment.
