The Sindh High Court (SHC) nullified on Tuesday the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) notification of imposing a three-day ban on Geo Entertainment anchor Amir Liaquat Hussain’s show ‘Inam Ghar’.

With the media regulator’s decision voided by the court, the programme will go on air as usual.

“Sindh High Court’s honourable Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq has suspended Pemra’s decision,” a statement posted on Pemra’s Twitter account read.

Pemra’s council of complaints had recommended on Monday a three-day ban on the TV show (from June 28 to June 30) besides directing Geo TV to air an apology for hurting the sentiments of the people.

“Inam Ghar‘s host Amir Liaquat Hussain should apologise at the beginning of the programme on July 1 besides giving assurance that such irresponsible and unprofessional behaviour will not be repeated in future otherwise the programme will be banned for an indefinite period of time,” a notice issued by the Pemra read.

A notice was earlier issued to the Geo TV for airing on June 6 scenes of a girl committing suicide and a participant of the programme abusing during the show.

The show host had provoked people to do strange activities and show anger in Punjabi language, said the Pemra statement, adding that airing such content was in clear violation of rules set by the regulatory body on June 1.

Lotus | 7 years ago | Reply Unfortunately always a tug of war ongoing on various departments of the Government! Petra should have taken a well thought off decision and then acted, while the Judiciary should not get involved on rulings of Govt Regulatory Bodies on such trivial issues.Nowadays, the value of ever flowing Stay Orders by the Courts leads to Mockery of the Justice in the country. One recent blatant example is when a Judge of the Lahore High Court took the decision 'the Kalabagh Dam',should be constructed immediately!Does he understand that three out of four Provincial Assemblies have passed Unanimous decisions against its construction, the pros and cons of its construction is a sensitive and highly technical matter which only a panel of technical experts can decide and so on.Judges should refrain from arbitrarily decisions in matters in which opinion of experts on the subject is a must.Lets hope we learn from this experience in the future at least.
