Ramazan security: 1,800 police personnel to safeguard shoppers

PESHAWAR: At least 1,800 additional policemen will be deployed in the city for the last 10 days of Ramazan. Around 25 mobile teams and two armoured vehicles will patrol the city round-the-clock.

Special arrangements have been made for the security of mosques as well.

Around 1,279 police personnel have been deployed to guard mosques during taraweeh prayers, while 354 members of the force will look after the situation in the city and Cantt circles. The personnel will be headed by DSP and SP rank officers.

Similarly, mounted policemen have also been deployed to patrol several busy marketplaces inside the walled city and cantonment areas. Men will not be allowed in women’s markets for the last five days of Ramazan and vehicles will also be barred from entering as a security measure.

“Our 25 mobile teams and two armoured personnel carriers (APCs) have also been deployed in sensitive areas and they will be on alert 24 hours a day. Mounted police will also patrol the busy market places,” a police official told The Express Tribune. He added 118 policewomen had been deployed in markets for women.
