Woman injures mother-in-law’s nose during an argument

A sharp knife was used following the argument in Okara District

MULTAN: A woman allegedly slashed her mother-in-law’s nose with a sharp knife after arguing with her on Monday in Okara district.

Okara police said Saima Bibi, a resident of Maal Mandi Mohalla, Haveli Lakha, had had an argument with her mother-in-law Zulaikha Bibi on Monday.  They said Saima Bibi used a knife to cut a part of Zulaikha Bibi’s nose. She started screaming in pain and neighbours gathered around the house. They took her to the Okara District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Doctors there said that her condition was critical.

Investigative Officer Afzal Jatoi said a case has been registered with the Haveli Lakha police against Saima Bibi and her brother Azam on a complaint filed by Imtiaz Noor, Saima Bibi’s husband. He said the case had been filed under Sections 336 and 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code (injuring a person, shajah [injuring someone without causing permanent damage].

Imtiaz Noor told The Express Tribune that his wife’s father Jehangir and brother Azam were home when the incident had occurred. “Her family has been interfering in our life ever since we got married…we had been arguing almost daily because of them,” he said.

Police said investigation of the matter was underway.

Investigative Officer Afzal Jatoi said Saima Bibi had confessed to the crime. She told police that her mother-in-law would argue with her often.

“She would poison my husband against me and my family…I was furious.” He said that Azam had fled. No one has been arrested yet, police said.
