KARACHI:

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will take action against illegal bachat bazaars, melas, and festivals within its jurisdiction.

For this purpose, KMC enterprise and investment promotion senior director Muhammad Bashir Khan Sadozaii had written a letter to anti-encroachment director Mazhar Khan.

According to the letter, the land grabbers and mafias are occupying KMC land and organising illegal bachat bazaars and hosting different festivals, without obtaining permission from their office. This ultimately causes heavy revenue loss to the KMC.

There are as many as 49 bachat bazaars in the city, pointed out Sadozaii while talking to The Express Tribune. "The owners of these illegal bazaars neither take NOCs from the KMC nor they give land rent," he said adding that Rs25 per square yard is their rent.

Two illegal bachat bazars have already been demolished in New Karachi, he added.
