Police arrest three suspected al Qaeda militants from Karachi

Separately, Rangers arrest 8 criminals associated with political parties from different areas of city

KARACHI: Three suspected militants affiliated with al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) were arrested on Saturday from Nazimabad No1 area of Karachi.

According to details, on information regarding the presence of militants in the area, Rizvia Society Police conducted a joint targeted operation with an intelligence agency and arrested three suspected AQIS militants identified as Abdul Sami S/O  Ghulam Rasool, Muhammad Mazharul Islam S/O Muhammad Akhtar, Muhammad Sohail Akhtar S/O Muhammad Akhtar Islam.

A Kalashnikov rifle, hand grenade, pistol and other explosive material were also recovered from their possession. Police is conducting the further investigation.

In separate operations conducted by Pakistan Rangers Sindh, the paramilitary force arrested eight suspected criminals associated with political parties.

The rRaids were conducted in Gulistan-e-Johar, Malir Town, Manghopir, Shah Faisal Colony, Quaidabad, Nazimabad and Defence Housing Authority, said a statement issued by Sindh Rangers.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the criminals’ possession including three small machine guns, the statement added.
