IG orders action against seminary teacher for beating 10-year-old

Cleric lost his temper when boy said he could not attend seminary classes a day ago because he was fasting

KARACHI: IG Sindh Allah Dino Khawaja ordered SSP Malir on Thursday to take legal action against a seminary teacher accused of beating a 10-year-old boy at Madressah Usmania in Ali Akbar Goth of District Malir.

According to a Sindh police spokesperson, the IG also directed district police to gather information from local people, record statement of the child’s family while staying in touch with the hospital where the child was being treated.

SHO Ahmed Sheikh of Ibrahim Hyderi Police station told The Express Tribune that the incident occurred when Niaz, the cleric involved in the incident, lost temper when Ahmed Reza, the 10-year-old boy, said that he could not attend the seminary classes a day ago because he was fasting.

Eyewitness said that the child was subjected to such violence that he fainted.

SHO Ahmed Sheikh quoted Dr Seemi Jamali, the in-charge of the emergency ward at Jinnah Hospital, as saying that the child received several internal and external injuries and was referred to National Institute of Child Health (NICH) after X-ray examination and first aid.

No case has yet been registered against the cleric concerned nor has he been taken into custody as police is awaiting the medical report.
