KARACHI: A Manchester-bound Shaheen Air flight made an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport Friday evening after one of the plane’s tyres burst minutes after takeoff from Islamabad.

The tyre burst initially prompted the pilot of flight NL-901 to contact and divert his plane toward’s Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, but weather conditions made it impossible to land there, a Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson said. “The pilot then decided to land in Karachi.”

An emergency was imposed at the Jinnah International Airport before flight NL-901 came in to land.

About 150 passengers and over half a dozen crew members were on board when the plane’s tyre burst mid-air. “By the grace of God, the plane made a safe landing and all the passengers and crew are safe,” the CAA spokesperson added.
