Mickey Arthur arrives in Pakistan

48-year-old will meet Test captain Misbahul Haq and ODI captain Azhar Ali before team will leave for England tour

Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur arrived at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore on Wednesday night to join the Pakistan team ahead of the England tour, Express News reported.

The former South African coach, who guided the Proteas to the top of Tests and ODI ranking was appointed head coach of the Men in Green on May 6 after former coach Waqar Younis resigned following team’s dismal performance in the Asia Cup T20 and World T20.

The Johannesburg-born right-handed batsman was granted the visa a week ago, and was expected to arrive on June 6.

According to media reports, Arthur will meet Test team captain Misbahul Haq and ODI captain Azhar Ali before the team leaves for the England tour on June 18.

The former Australian coach missed the team’s boot camp and skills camp, which was set up by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ahead of the next month’s tour.

The 48-year-old also coached Karachi Kings franchise in the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

While speaking to The Express Tribune after his appointment, the former coach of the Australian domestic team Western Warriors said that he is excited for a massive challenge ahead with team Pakistan. “It’s a massive challenge without doubt, but one that I am excited about,” he said. “The present ODI ranking of Pakistan isn’t a reflection of a nation so keen on the game. It’s our responsibility to get the rankings to improve.

“The rankings are good in Tests but the challenge is to play well outside the UAE. Bowling — both fast and spin — is exciting, but the concern in the long format is batting outside our conditions as well as fitness and fielding, which will be a priority.”
