KARACHI:

A fire broke out on Saturday at the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) precision engineering department, razing the establishment completely. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

PIA's engineering director Maqsood Ahmed said that the fire occurred due to short-circuit. It started in the room of the precision engineering head and engulfed the whole building. He added that the machinery installed in the premises was also damaged by the blaze.

The fire started at around 9:30 am. Initially, five fire tenders of Civil Aviation Authority and municipal administration were rushed to the scene, however, upon realising the high intensity of the fire seven more tenders were called in.

The national carrier's official ruled out the possibility of the incident being planned but mentioned that investigations were underway and the cause will be ascertained once the investigators complete their work.

The building is situated away from the airport at the far end of the blocks where PIA offices are situated.
