New direction: Bismah named women’s T20 skipper

Replaces Sana, who stepped down from role in March

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), yesterday, named all-rounder Bismah Maroof as Pakistan women’s T20 captain, a post which was left vacant after Sana Mir stepped down as skipper of the shortest format at the end of March.

PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan approved the 15-member women’s team as well as three standbys. The team was selected by the women’s national selection committee comprising of Farrukh Zaman, Urooj Mumtaz Khan and Syed Ali Naqvi.

The women’s team will play three ODIs and as many T20Is against England.

Sana would continue to captain the side in one-dayers in England, while Bismah’s first test as skipper would come at the same tour.

The full squad includes Javeria Wadood, Bibi Nahida, Sidra Amin, Bismah Maroof, Muneeba Ali Siddiqui, Sana Mir, Nida Rashid, Iram Javed, Asmavia Iqbal, Anam Amin, Sania Iqbal, Sadia Yousaf, Aiman Anwar, Sidra Nawaz (wk) and Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi.

The three standbys for the tour are Rabiya Shah, Maham Tariq and Ayesha Zafar.

Ayesha Ashar will be the manager on the tour, while Mohtashim Rasheed will be the head coach. Mohammad Azam Khan, meanwhile, has been named as the batting consultant.
