‘False evidence’: FIA officer sent to jail
The FIA investigation officer told Senior Civil Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar that Ahmed was on leave
ISLAMABAD:
A magistrate on Thursday sent an officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on 14-day judicial remand for allegedly giving false evidence in an FIA case. Special investigation unit (SIU) of the agency had booked and arrested Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed, an assistant director, on May 27 for his alleged “misstatement” in an FIA case before the Lahore High Court. The FIA investigation officer told Senior Civil Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar that Ahmed was on leave when he appeared before a court in Lahore and recorded statement, which was contrary to the FIA record. FIA requested extension in physical remand of the suspect, which the court turned down and sent Ahmed on 14-day judicial remand.
