Curtain call: Pathway to glory
With new nominations and broader categories, Lux Style Awards returns to the fore .

As celebrities gear up for Lux Style Awards 2016 to be held in September, the list of nominees were announced on Monday at a local hotel in the metropolis. While the event was scheduled to kick off at 4pm, attendees were left waiting for two hours for the night’s proceedings to begin.
Model Nadia Hussain, VJ Ali Safina, actors Urwa Hocane and Yasir Hussain and singer Farhan Saeed were the first to grace the red carpet. However, actor Mahira Khan arrived late to the show and entered after everyone was seated and the show had begun.
Hussain commenced the night by playing the host for the evening. Starting by asserting that no one takes comedy seriously in Pakistan, Hussain quipped that nothing in the country is as democratic as award nominations. The Karachi Se Lahore actor was soon replaced by Khan, who took to the podium and showed clips of some striking glimpses from the Lux Style Awards over the years.

“From the one film that we talked about giving the awards to, now we have array of films being shown in the cinemas across Pakistan. I am a believer we have come a long, long way. It is an innovative platform, a tiresome process but depends largely on the jury’s fairness,” Chairperson Unilever Pakistan, Shazia Syed said at the ceremony.
Khan was followed by director Adnan Malik who came on to stage and announced the list of nominations. As actor Ahmed Ali Butt left the attendees rolling in fits of laughter, some were taken aback when he announced there was ‘one forced entry’ in the Best TV Writer category.
Saving the evening, Hussain stepped in, rejecting all sorts of thoughts amongst those seated, and laughed, “Awards are very fair, either it is being nominated on the basis of merit or you need to be really good friends with Frieha Altaf.” Hussain shared he hopes the awards will be held outside the country.
