Law minister opens front desk at Kotwali police station

FAISALABAD: Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said on Monday establishment of front desks at police stations would help change police culture across the province.

He was speaking to the media after inaugurating front desks at Kotwali police station. RPO Bilal Siddique Kamiana and CPO Afzal Ahmed Kausar were present on the occasion.

“Front desks have been established at 200 police stations across the Punjab. These will be introduced at all police stations in the province by December,” the minister said. He said staff recruited for the desk was well trained in information technology. “They will register citizens’ complaints and forward these to the officer concerned for further action,” Khan said.

He said one of the aims of establishing front desks was to improve investigation process. The facility would help provide hassle-free services to complainants, he said. The minister said a forensic lab was being set up at a cost of Rs10 billion which he said was another step towards improving police’s performance.

Khan said under the Safe City Project, security cameras were being installed in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi at a cost of Rs30 billion. The initiative would help police monitor security situation in these cities from a control room, he said.

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is scheduled to undergo heart surgery in London on Tuesday (today), would return to Pakistan once he recovered from the wounds.
