‘Govt committed to economic uplift’

FPCCI regional chairman talked about reforms in the education sector and establishment of research centres

LAHORE: Governor Rafiq Rajwana said on Monday the government had been making strenuous efforts for the economic uplift of the country.

The governor was visiting the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FPCCI) regional office.

“The government is aware of the problems faced by the business community. Measures are being taken to provide relief to the businessmen,” Rajwana said.

Several business leaders shared their issued with with the governor. They also prayed for the early recovery of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who is scheduled to undergo heart surgery in London on Tuesday (today).

Rajwana assured the businessmen of his support in solving their problems. He said a lot of investment was being made in the energy sector. Several power-generation projects were in the pipeline, he said. “These include solar, hydel, coal and nuclear power plants. Three power plants will operate on liquefied natural gas,” he said.

Earlier, FPCCI regional chairman Mian Rehman Aziz Chan talked about reforms in the education sector and establishment of research centres.

He stressed the need for updating the curricula on a regular basis. He said the industry-academia linkages were vital for the national development.
