Father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has claimed that Pakistan has the ability to ‘target’ Indian capital New Delhi in just five minutes.

“Pakistan has the ability to target New Delhi from Kahuta near Rawalpindi in five minutes,” Khan said.

Nuclearisation of the Indian Ocean region

Addressing an event organised in Islamabad to celebrate the 18th anniversary of Pakistan’s first nuclear tests, carried out under his supervision in 1998, Khan said Pakistan could have become a nuclear power in 1984, if then President General Ziaul Haq hadn’t “opposed the move”.

“We were able and we had a plan to launch nuclear test in 1984. But President General Ziaul Haq had opposed the move,” Khan said.

According to Khan, General Zia believed that nuclear testing would not only result in world intervening militarily, but also affect international aid Pakistan was receiving due to the ongoing Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

Pakistan to set up first mega nuclear power plant: Ahsan Iqbal

Youm-e-Takbeer was celebrated across the country on Saturday with a pledge to defend the country against any aggression. On May 28, 1998, Pakistan detonated its nuclear devices at Chagai in Balochistan to become the first Muslim country to achieve the status of a nuclear power.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said it is our national responsibility to have full preparedness to protect Pakistan from external threats so that no one could dare to look towards it with bad intention.

“Pakistan’s atomic programme was developed to make country’s defence impregnable. It is a guarantee for peace in South Asia. This programme created balance of power, which was necessary to make this region safe,” the premier said in his message on the 18th anniversary of Pakistan’s historic atomic tests

    Dr Khan is a brilliant scientist but very modest too. It is not a secret that nuclear armed missiles in the region are targeted at all major cities , which in action would destroy the entire land scape in minutes. In the meantime they act like an empty Gun which both the potential perpetrator and the vIctim fear.

    @Tallal Ahmed:
    The reason why the car was “refuse” is for the simple reason that it did not work. The energy required to split water into Hydrogen and oxygen was higher than the energy generated. The claims violate the laws of thermodynamics which every engineering student learns. Maybe the car had Djinns in the petrol tank.

    Even the Chinese say the same thing. They understand nuclear deterrence is a psychological thing so that’s why they have been focusing on their economy all these decades. It’s only after many decades of explosive economic growth that they are spending on upgrading their military.Recommend

    Someone needs to teach physics to this guy
    Sound of speed is almost 1 km per 3 sec that means 20 kilometer in a minutes. From Wagha Border to Delhi, the distance is almost 500 Kilometer. Assuming Pakistan has a mach speed missile that can carry a nuke, it will take almost 25 minutes if fired from Wagha Border. In order to reach Wagha to Delhi in 5 minutes the missile has to be Mach 5 which has to be a Hypersonic missile which Pakistan does not posses but India does. I think false bravado of such people would take Pakistan down and poor Pakistanis may have to face the brunt of stupidity of their elite.Recommend

    ‘Dr Khan is a brilliant scientist but very modest too.’

    Are you serious? Khan is not a brilliant scientist. All he did was to steal enrichment and centrifuge secrets from Urenco, the Dutch company he worked for, and give it to Pakistan. Don’t forget this “brilliant” scientist also believed in Waqar’s car that runs on water, a total violation of the laws of thermodynamics.

    As for modesty, this guy constantly boasts what a great scientist he is and how he is the father of Pak’s nuclear bomb. He clandestinely sold nuclear technology to Libya, Iran, North Korea and offered it to Syria and Iraq.Recommend

    Dear Mr Chota Rajan, your analysis is wrong. Second strike need not be from a land base. Almost all the nuclear powers (Pakistan not included) have second strike capabilities, in varying degrees of strength, spread out through the vast oceans of the globe. You do not know whether the space deployment is also clandestinely done. Among all the nuclear weaponised countries (watch the language-not nuclear powers), Pakistan alone has no capability of space deployment. One way of winning war assuredly is to draw the enemy into the arms race. Best of luck, you are welcome to join the club.Recommend
