On this day in 1998, Pakistan detonated its nuclear devices at Chagai in Balochistan to become the first Muslim country to achieve the status of a nuclear power. Different organisations arranged special programmes and functions and brought out rallies to highlight importance of the day. Rich tribute was also paid to team of nuclear scientists by intellectuals, poets, journalists, defence analysts and notable personalities.
PTV, Radio Pakistan and others television channels broadcast special programmes in connection with the day. Special supplements were also published by newspapers. PML-N leaders also arranged functions where a larger number of local leaders and workers were present. In Lahore and other cities of Punjab different functions were arranged where speakers said that Pakistan’s nuclear explosions not only saved the region from an imbalance of power but also made the country the first Islamic nuclear state.
