CJP urged to take notice of check post ‘giveaway’

Lawyer moves application for suo motu action.

MULTAN: Supreme Court Bar Association member Kanwar Intizar Hussein has urged the chief justice to take suo motu notice of handing over of the Angoor Adda check post to the Afghan army as a goodwill gesture.

Talking to newsmen at Multan High Court Bar Association office, Hussein said he had moved an application to the chief justice against the Federation of Pakistan through the Defence, Interior Affairs and Foreign Affairs secretaries for ceding the Angoor Adda check post to Afghanistan.

He said he had moved the application under article 184 (3) of the Constitution. He said suo motu action should be taken against those responsible for taking a step against national interest.

“It is alarming that Pakistan Army handed over the check post in South Waziristan to the Afghan army as a good will gesture,” he said.

Hussain said, “Under Article 1 of the Constitution, the Tribal Areas are part of Pakistan’s territory. Nobody can hand over or surrender any territory of Pakistan to other countries. This is high treason and a violation of the Constitution and various laws of the land including the Army Act.”

Hussain said Pakistan Army was an institution of the Pakistani state.

“Its functions are to defend every inch of the country’s territory. The officials who were responsible for handing over the check post acted against national interest and violated the Constitution.”

He said the chief justice should intervene in the matter as it pertained to the integrity and security of Pakistan.
