KARACHI: Pakistan opener Mohammad Hafeez is yet to recover from the knee injury that ruled him out of World T20 games against Australia and New Zealand in March this year.

The 35-year-old batsman is now expected to be side-lined from the ‘skill camp’ which begins in Lahore on May 30 before Pakistan’s tour of England.

Despite undergoing treatment under supervision of Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) medical panel for more than two months, the pain in Hafeez’s right knee is yet to subside.

The opening batsman was given a roadmap by the panel to ensure recovery from his injury, but the progress hasn’t been encouraging. He is reportedly suffering from bone edema and muscular pain, which is generally caused by wear and tear in and around the knee.

Since suffering the injury, Hafeez has gone through three scans, with the third one conducted in Lahore on Wednesday, which revealed the extent of his injury.

With the start of the Test series in England still six weeks away, the batsman is likely to travel abroad for a second opinion in a bid to speed-up his recovery.

PCB doctors were hopeful that Hafeez will recover without going through a surgical procedure, but it seems he might need to go under the knife.

Hafeez had a richly rewarding year in the Test format in 2015 with a tally of 710 runs at an average of 59.16.

The Sargodha-born capped off 2015 with a match winning century in the second innings of the Test match against England last November held in Sharjah, UAE. The innings was widely hailed as his best innings in the 47-match Test career.
