ISLAMABAD: The Council of Ideology (CII) is likely to take up several pending bills and proposals in its 204th meeting session to start today (Tuesday).

The session, to continue till May 26, will also discuss a bill against physical torture of children, which has been prepared by the council based on Islamic injunctions. The basic objective of the pro-children bill is to protect the rights of kids through Islamic legislations.

CII Secretary Dr Ikramul Haq said two proposals against distribution of hate material and culture of dowry submitted by Allama Tahir Ashrafi could be finalised during the meeting.

The council will also take up the matter regarding the use of bodies by medical students for studies, as the point has been put on agenda on public request.A public application against Bahria University for removing Islamiat and Social Studies as subjects from its syllabus will also be discussed by the clerics.

The issue of double punishments will be discussed on the request of a human rights worker, who wrote to the council for deliberations over the subject.

In April, the council had rejected the Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act (PPWVA) and another bill against domestic violence tabled in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, terming both of them against Islamic laws. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl has drafted its own pro-women bill based on Islamic tenets.
