LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) on Wednesday announced the impending launch of a training programme for security guards.

According to a statement, the free course would commence soon. It said security guards across the Punjab would be trained on this account. The Tevta said the initiative had been taken in collaboration with the Home Department, police, Rescue-1122 and the Elite Police Training School.

The Tevta said the initiative had been taken to impart training to those working across security companies province-wide.

The initiative was announced by Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while addressing officials at the Tevta Secretariat. Sheikh said the course would be introduced across 19 Tevta institutes province-wide. He said the initiative had been taken under the first phase of a programme aiming to train unemployed youngsters for free. Sheikh said the course would be five weeks long. Sheikh said those with matriculation certificates or higher qualifications aged 18 to 45 were eligible to enrol at the course.

The Tevta chairperson said the introduction of the course would facilitate the supply of skilled manpower to security agencies operating province-wide. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had already given the go-ahead on this account. Sheikh said the introduction of the course would not only curb crime against property but also help eradicate terrorism across the Punjab.

Tevta COO Jawad Ahmed Qureshi and other officials were also present on the occasion.
