ADB signs $242m power deal with Pakistan

Project includes 3,380 MVA transformer capacity, 387 kilometers of new distribution lines.

The Asian Development Bank and the Government of Pakistan have signed an agreement on Friday to invest 242 million dollars (USD) in improving the power distribution system in Pakistan.

ADB has said that the investment is part of a 810 million dollar Power Distribution Enhancement Investment Programme that was approved in earlier in 2008.

The multi-tranche financing facility targets investment in high priority areas to reduce power loss and to increase the reliability of the distribution of power.

Country Director of ADB in Pakistan, Rune Stroem and Secretary Economic Affairs Division, Sibtain Fazal Halim are said to have signed the agreement.

The project comprises of physical investments in the secondary transmission grid and will include an addition of 3,380 megavolt amperes (MVA) of transformer capacity and 387 kilometers of new distribution lines.
