PARACHINAR/PESHAWAR: A curfew-like situation has been enforced for an indefinite period by the political administration on Thursday after violence erupted in Parachinar, Kurram Agency.

It also imposed a ban on the entry of vehicles in Parachinar that created disturbance among locals. Educational institutes and markets will remain closed till further notice.

Tehreek-e-Hussaini announced a three-day mourning period over the killing of three people by the levies forces on Wednesday.

Addressing the media, former senator Allama Abidul Hussaini and head of Tehreek-e-Hussaini Maulana Munir Hussain Jaffari condemned the killing of tribespeople who were protesting for their rights.

The leaders said they will fight for their rights and will not tolerate interference from others.

However, Frontier Corps and political administration officials claimed to have arrested 47 protesters. He said casualties occurred when demonstrators opened fire. They added investigation to probe further into the matter is under way.

The backdrop

Three protesters were killed and 11 others injured following an alleged exchange of fire with security forces during a demonstration near Parachinar on Wednesday.

According to locals, Abidul Hussaini had invited Tehreek-e-Hussaini ulema from Islamabad and Peshawar to attend a convention. However, they were stopped by the political administration near Chapri check post near Parachinar. Locals protested against the decision at Sadara where an exchange of fire took place when FC personnel and levies forces attempted to disperse the crowd.

Judicial commission demanded

Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Provincial General Secretary Allama Syed Muhammad Sibtain Hussaini condemned the killings of four members of Shia community. He demanded the formation of a judicial commission over the ongoing unrest in Parachinar.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, Sibtain Hussaini condemned the act of local administration and demanded the formation of judicial commission to probe into the act of brutality.

“We want the prime minister, president, chief justice and army chief to take notice of this act which is creating unrest in the region,” he said.

Sibtain Hussaini added Mustafa Kazmi, a scholar who was coming to Parachinar to address a majlis organised to celebrate the birth of Hazrat Iman Hussain, were stopped near the check post and not allowed to enter Parachinar.
