FAISALABAD: The Food Department announced on Wednesday that it had procured 187,496 metric tonnes of wheat from Faisalabad division so far.

“The Food Department has fixed a target of procuring 504,000 metric tonnes of wheat from Faisalabad division this year,” said Food Department Deputy Director Shafiullah Khan said. He was inspecting wheat procurement centres.

He said that 277,177 gunny bags had been distributed among wheat growers so far.

“Around 46,455 metric tonnes wheat has been procured and 91,172 gunny bags have been distributed among farmers in Faisalabad district. A total of 33,702 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured from Toba Tek Singh district. Farmers in the district have been provided 38,449 gunny bags,” Khan said.

He said that 89,679 metric tonnes wheat had been procured and 115,140 gunny bags had been distributed in Jhang district. “We have bought 17,660 metric tonnes wheat from Chiniot district. A total of 32,416 gunny bags have been distributed among farmers in the district,” he said. He said that the wheat procurement campaign was being monitored closely.

Khan said that farmers who visiting the procurement centres were being facilitated.
