ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court (SC) put off Nusrat Bhutto's suo motu case proceedings after directing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take action against its prosecutor Arif Ali Chauhan.

Rawalpindi Accountability Court had issued summons for the ageing PPP chairperson who is facing corruption charges in the Cotecna pre-shipment inspection reference.

The chief justice had taken a suo motu notice on the issuance of the summons.

In today's proceedings, the CJ observed that the NAB prosecutor had asked the accountability court to summon Bhutto, despite the request of exemption made by the NAB chairman.

Justice Ramday remarked that it appears that the government is bent upon bringing Bhutto back to Pakistan despite her illness.
