According to a PCB official, the board relaxed the requirement of graduation for Nazar to be eligible for the position. “With the condition of being a graduate removed Mudassar is now set to be appointed to this new position,” the official said. “He was the unanimous choice because of his background in coaching and cricket administration with the ICC and national teams.”
Mudassar Nazar played 76 Tests and 122 one-day internationals for Pakistan and has coached Pakistan senior and A teams in the past. He also served as director of the National Cricket Academy in Lahore before moving to Dubai.

The decision to appoint a former player is one of several steps being taken by the PCB to restructure its cricket system after the national team’s disastrous performances in the Asia Cup and World T20.
On Wednesday, Pakistan slipped to ninth position in one-day rankings and will now have to ensure it finishes among the top seven before September 30, 2017, in order to qualify for 2019 World Cup. Additionally, Pakistan is placed seventh in T20s, while it improved its ranking to third position in Tests.
