Reboot: Sports journalists association reactivated

The Federal Sports Journalists Association is the pioneer organisation comprising sports journalists.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Sports Journalists Association, the pioneer organisation comprising sports journalists, has been re-launched. The association aims to defend the rights of sports journalists at national and international platforms and promote sports journalism across the country.

Senior Sports Reporter Shakeel Awan (Daily Jang) was elected chairperson.

To this effect, a meeting was held at the Islamabad Sports Complex on Wednesday. As many as 31 sports journalists from various media outlets participated in the meeting. The members unanimously elected the new office-bearers of the association for 2011 and 2012.

Zulfiqar Baig (Express TV) was elected as Vice Chairman, Ayaz Akbar as President, Masood Rabbani as Secretary, Faisal Sahi as Finance Secretary, Naseeb Elahi as Senior Vice President, AD Abbasi as Joint Secretary, and Rahim Shah as information secretary. The members of the association include Zaheer Alam, Syed Khawar Abbas, Yasir Zahoor and Naeem Akhtar.

The association also announced a manifesto and pledged to work to resolve the problems faced by sports journalists. Minister for Sports Ijaz Jhakrani and DG Sports Board Syed Hamza Gillani congratulated the newly-elected office-bearers and offered their full support to help improve the level of sports journalism in the country.
