Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage

How would you describe your body type?
Lean and athletic.
Has your body type changed over the last five years?
I have pretty much remained the same. I may have been skinnier before — I’ve gained a bit of weight, but nothing too significant.
How has your style changed over the years?
I used to be more casual in my dressing, a lot grungier, but obviously with age my sense of dressing has matured. It’s become a lot more sophisticated.
In your opinion what is your most troublesome area?
I have a rectangular body, so I don’t have a defined waistline. Generally I have to try and disguise that and distract the eye from that by accentuating other more flattering parts of my body, like my arms, shoulders or legs.

How do you dress your body according to your body type?
I either use a waist belt, or wear something that attracts attention to flattering body parts. I also like to wear solid colours, so you can’t really see exactly where everything meets. I also use the ‘slim plus volume’ technique, where you wear something fitted with a looser piece.
In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here?
Just looking the same as everyone else. I feel like there are too many clones out there. Even though a certain style might be lovely, it just gets a little boring and repetitive to see the same thing. It’s always fun and exciting to see something different.
What silhouettes suit your body the most?
I love dresses of all sorts. Obviously ones that are flattering to my physique — I’m also a big fan of vests and jeans!
What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why?
I don’t wear anything flared at the bottom. It looks nice on some people, but doesn’t suit me at all, so it’s a definite no-no.
