DERA GHAZI KHAN/FAISALABAD: Police found 240 kilogrammes of hashish hidden in secret compartments of a mini-truck travelling from Balochistan on Sunday.

Cops at the Bawata check post flagged down the truck for checking. The driver stopped the vehicle and check post in-charge Habibullah Khan asked him the purpose of his visit. The driver told him he was travelling to Dera Ghazi Khan to pick up a consignment.

As the policemen started checking the truck, the driver fled. The police discovered secret compartments built into the truck. They unloaded 240kg of hashish. Bawata Border police registered a case against unidentified suspects.

In Faisalabad, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized capsules filled with heroin in the luggage of a Saudi Arabia-bound traveller on Sunday.

A spokesperson said that the ANF had received a tip-off about the smuggling bid. An ANF team arrived at the Faisalabad Airport at around 4am and went through the luggage of Ramazan Sharif, a resident of Khushab. They found a sizeable quantity of capsules filled with heroin from his luggage.

Sharif was about to board the plane when he was stopped by the ANF team. He was scheduled to fly to Saudi Arabia via Sharjah.

The spokesperson said Sharif was later taken to an ANF police station and further investigation was underway.
