PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court issued contempt of court notices against the investigation officer and moharrar of Tehkal police station for failing to file a chargesheet against a suspect in a drugs case.

A bench, headed by PHC Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, heard a contempt of court petition on Monday. The petition was filed by suspect Hassan Khan.

Hassan’s counsel told the court his client had filed a bail application after the police failed to file a charge sheet against him.

He said the high court ordered the police to prepare a challan in one month and file it. However, they failed to do so and the petitioner, once again, approached the court to obtain bail.

The bench was informed that the additional advocate general had contacted the investigation officer and the moharrar in this regard. However, they did not adopt a professional attitude to the matter.

The counsel added the SSP (investigation) conducted a departmental enquiry and took action against both officials on the high court’s order.

The chief justice said it was a departmental action. He said contempt of court action should be taken against them since a court’s official was insulted.

After hearing the arguments, the bench issued contempt of court notices to both officials.
