KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected on Monday the request for early hearing of a petition challenging former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain’s detention by the Rangers under terrorism charges. “The detention of the detainee under terrorism law is unlawful, illegal, without jurisdiction, unconstitutional, arbitrary, malafide as the detainee is a patriotic Pakistani and leader in public service,” argued Dr Asim’s wife’s lawyer. He added that the said provision of 11EEEE is unconstitutional in its present form as it is contrary to Article 10 of the Constitution.  The petitioner had also questioned the process under which the Rangers were given special powers by the interior ministry.
