A fourth grader was reportedly beaten by his teacher in Tordher, Swabi on Friday after he was absent from school without leave.
Fazalur Rehman told the police his son, Bilal, a student of Government Primary School No1, was sick since a few days and was unable to attend school. He said Bilal did not submit his sick leave application to the school.
When he returned, his teacher thrashed him with a stick and left him injured.
According to Rehman, Bilal had bruises on his body and is in critical condition. He has filed a case against the teacher in Tordher police station. Rehman has also appealed to the education department to take notice of the incident and make sure action is taken against the educationist.
Although the government has imposed a ban on corporal punishment, students at government-run schools are repeatedly beaten by teachers. The perpetrators managed to escape with impunity.
