Busted: Police foil smuggling bid, seize weapons

The police arrested the occupants of the car and registered cases against them

Police foiled a smuggling bid on Friday and seized weapons in Tal tehsil, Hangu.


Tal SHO Amjad Hussain told The Express Tribune that Hangu DPO Shah Nazar and other policemen carried out a search operation in the area. Hussain said they flagged down a vehicle and recovered nine repeaters and 18 chargers from it.


The police arrested the occupants of the car identified as Ziarat Khan and Zaabat Khan and registered cases against them. Officials claimed the weapons were being smuggled to other districts via Torghar.


On September 20, 2015, security forces raided an arms depot in Tal tehsil, Hangu and seized a large cache of arms and explosives. The depot is located on the border of Kurram and North Waziristan agencies. Security officials seized 138 boxes of assorted cartridges, 107 3mm missiles, 17 hand grenades, 35 RPG-7 machine guns and several other weapons and ammunition from the depot.
