KARACHI: Pakistan kicked off the build-up to the International Cricket Council’s Women World Cup Qualifiers with a national championship and a number of international tours in a bid to get more match practice.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Women Wings’ Chairperson Bushra Aitzaz, the women’s cricket team has ample number of international tournaments that will hone their skills before they travel to Bangladesh for the qualifying round.

“I’m hopeful that we’ll make the best possible combination to play the qualifying round,” said Bushra.

“Currently we have the senior national championship underway, which gives us the opportunity to identify and train the best possible talent. We are playing Nepal at home next month before going Sri Lanka to participate in the Pentangular Cup.

“And later this summer we will be touring the West Indies for more practice matches,” said Aitzaz. “So it will be a busy year and given the tough fixtures throughout the year our team will get the much-needed exposure and practice.”

Last year Pakistan women propelled to a 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the final of the inaugural women’s cricket tournament at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
