KARACHI:

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan gave his assent to the Sindh Hindu Marriage Bill 2016 on Saturday. The bill was passed by Sindh Assembly on February 15. After the signature that is also called the 'governor's consent', the bill becomes an act. According to the law, it will be applicable to all Hindus and Sikhs living in the province. The objective of this act is to provide a formal process to register marriages, which will now be registered with the union council or any other municipal authority within 45 days of the ceremony. This act would also have retrospective effect and marriages solemnised before the law was passed may be registered.
