BAHAWALPUR: Development projects estimated to cost Rs330 million were approved at a meeting of the Divisional Development Working Party on Thursday. The projects include road construction, building a pond in Cholistan, providing safe drinking water in the division and eight other projects.

The meeting was chaired by Bahawalpur Commissioner Saqib Zafar and Development Director Syed Wajid Ali Shah and other relevant officials were present.

Under a revised budget, the construction of 40 water ponds in Cholistan area was approved. More than Rs53.7 million will be spent on the projects. The participants also approved the construction of a road from Derawar Fort to Chak 141. Liaquatpur Road will be repaired. More than Rs76 million will be spent on building and repairing these roads. They also approved the construction a road from Kot Samaba to Bagh Bahaar and a road from City Poll to Aab-i-Hayat Canal.

The participants decided to restore the Fateh Kamal Drainage Scheme in Khanpur tehsil. They said Rs5 million will be spent on it. The construction of new classrooms and the procurement of new furniture for the Government Post Graduate College of Commerce for Boys in Bahawalnagar were approved. The participants said Rs17 million will be spent on it.

The commissioner took notice of a delay by the Cholistan Development Authority in completing various development works. He directed the relevant officials to ensure the completion of the projects on time. He told the officials to review the condition of land before starting construction of roads and to come up with an accurate estimation so that the roads could last a while.

Zafar directed the officials to complete all projects on time and to ensure the quality of construction.
