KARACHI: Three wickets each by Sohail Khan and Fawad Alam steered Karachi Blues into the final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Grade II tournament as they defeated Sialkot by nine wickets in the semi-final, being played at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad yesterday.

Sialkot resumed their second innings 116-6 and were able to add only 42 runs before losing the remaining four wickets. Sohail took 3-71 in his 18-over spell, while Alam also took three wickets for five runs in his eight-over spell to restrict Sialkot to 158.

Chasing an easy target of 43 runs, Karachi Blues made 45 in just 7.2 overs, losing one wicket in the process. They will now face Multan, who defeated Faisalabad in the other semi-final, courtesy their first innings lead after the match had ended in a draw.

Faisalabad resumed their innings 83-0 and reached 378-5 on the final day with the help of centuries from Iftikhar Ahmed (104 off 162 balls) and Ali Rafique (115 off 205 balls). But their efforts went in vain as the final day ended without a result. Atif Manzoor (62) also contributed with a significant knock.

Multan’s Zulfiqar Babar took two wickets.

The four-day final between Karachi Blues and Multan will commence from Thursday where the winner will be promoted to the main round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
