HYDERABAD:

A police official facing an inquiry about alleged illegal appointments in the Sindh Reserve Police was denied a pre-arrest bail by the Sindh High Court Hyderabad Circuit Bench on Tuesday.

In his petition, SSP Ghulam Nabi Keerio pleaded the court grant him protective bail as he feared arrest from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). According to his petition, NAB, through a notice dated March 15, summoned him to record his statement for the inquiry. Keerio claimed that some 421 vacancies in the Sindh Reserve Police, Shaheed Benazirabad district, were filled on merit when he was posted in the district. He is currently posted in Hyderabad.

NAB ordered to probe Sindh police graft cases

NAB is investigating alleged irregularities and nepotism in the appointments. However, the SHC put the NAB officials investigating the case on notice, seeking details of the inquiry against Keerio. The Supreme Court of Pakistan is also hearing a case concerning appointments in the Sindh Reserve Police. The court constituted two inquiries including one conducted by a three-member court-appointed committee and the other by NAB.
