‘Bajirao Mastani’ wins big at TOIFA technical awards

Film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Bajirao Mastani roped in the maximum awards in the technical category at the second edition of the Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA) in Dubai on Thursday. The Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra starrer bagged the trophies for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design, reported Indian Express.

Singh made an impromptu appearance at the event and picked up the Best Costume Design on behalf of designer Anju Modi who was not present. The actor even shook a leg with the show’s hosts Manish Paul and Huma Qureshi on the film’s popular track Pinga, which was picturised on Padukone and Chopra originally.

The technical awards saw as many as 400 guests come together, for a night full of excitement and glamour. Some of Bollywood’s iconic names gathered for the event that was prelude to the main TOIFA night that was held on Friday.

Other than the Bhansali directorial, Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan roped in the Best Story award which was presented by superstar Shah Rukh Khan and picked up by Kareena Kapoor. Shoojit Sircar’s Piku- starring Amitabh Bachchan and Padukone — won Best Screenplay while Kangana Ranaut’s acclaimed Tanu Weds Manu Returns won the trophy for Best Dialogues. Host of Friday’s gala, actor Parineeti Chopra accepted the Best Choreography award on behalf of Remo D’Souza as well.

But there was more to the night than just awards and films. Renowned Bollywood singers like Shweta Pandit, Shalmali Kholgade and Armaan Malik sang some popular tracks from, including Mein Hoon Hero Tera, Dil Dhadakne Do and Sooraj Dooba Hain. There was also a sprinkle of fashion at the awards ceremony as Mumbai-based designers Riyaz and Reshma Gangji showcased their designs with actors Zarine Khan and Sooraj Pancholi as the showstoppers. Superstar of the 90s Karisma Kapoor also walked the stage in a dazzling golden gown by Pakistani designer Faraz Manan. Other celebrities seen gracing the event were Riteish Deshmukh, Karthik Aryan, Gautam Gulati and Ronit Roy.
