Regional issues: Delegates urge govt to implement RTI

Delegates from different contires urged their governments to ensure widespread public awarenes

ISLAMABAD:


Delegates from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal urged their governments to ensure widespread public awareness and effective implementation of Right to Information in South Asia.


Speaking at a regional conference, Understanding the Silent Revolution, Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, New Delhi, Founder Aruna Roy stressed that the link between legislators and common people is central to democracy.


Punjab Assembly Parliamentary Affairs Director General Inayatullah Lak apprised the participants of measures that the assembly secretariat is taking to proactively disclose activities of the provincial legislature through their official website.


Representing the Senate Secretariat, Legislation Joint Secretary Rabeea Anwar said that in addition to attendance of senators the attendance records of the Senate’s standing committees are also being proactively disclosed on the upper house’s website.
