Lyari gang ‘members’: Five suspects arrested from Attock

Large cache of weapons also seized

RAWALPINDI: The police have arrested five suspected members of Lyari gang from Attock District.

According to police sources, the five men allegedly associated with a criminal gang operating in Lyari  were arrested in a raid on a house in Jand Tehsil of Attock District in the small hours of Sunday.

Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Fakhar Sultan said that the police, on a tip-off, raided the house in Dhok Kassan around 150 kilometres from Attock city.

The police arrested Malik Nur Zaman, owner of the house, Safdar Hussain, Amer Khan, Ansar Hussain and Ghulam Hussain, said a handout.

The police said that the arrested men were reportedly associated with criminal gangs operating in Lyari and were wanted in crimes such as kidnapping for ransom and target killings.

The police further said that Aziz Khan was killed in Karachi in an alleged encounter with law enforcement agencies.

Yaqoob and Muhammad Khan, two other sons of Zaman, also wanted by police, were still at large till the filing of this report.

The police also claimed to have seized a huge cache of weapons from the arrested men. The weapons recovered, the police said included nine pistols, three 12-bore guns, a 7-mm gun, a sniper rifle, a 3.3-mm rifle, and six semi-automatic guns.

The RPO said that Injra police had registered a criminal case and had started an investigation.

All five suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location and will be handed over to the rangers in Karachi.
