The University of Sargodha, Bhakkar sub-campus, arranged a seminar and an exhibition to celebrate Muslim scientists on Thursday.
The exhibition included projects by students and alternate proposals to deal with the problem of malnutrition caused by the famine in Thar. A seminar was also held to pay tribute to and highlight the achievements of Muslim scientists.
Dr Musarrat, head of the Department of Science, said the university wanted to push its students to achieve their potential in the various fields of science. “We want them to do well in their exams but what we really stress on is the need for students to walk in the footsteps of Dr Abdus Salam and Dr Abdul Qadir Khan.”
Dr Musarrat said the research projects on Thar focused on how indigenous nutritious plants, fruits and flowers that grow there could be used to treat malnutrition. “Thar has several indigenous sources of nutrition and energy that can be used to end malnutrition among its inhabitants.”
The head of department said the ideas posited by the science students could have a chance to materialise if they were presented in various exhibitions.
The students were also briefed about on-going research on the crisis in Thar.
Visitors at the university sub-campus appreciated the event and said they provided students a chance to improve their learning skills.
