MUMBAI: Bollywood ‘Queen’ Kangana Ranaut may be having a golden run on the professional front but her personal life has not been an easy journey. Speaking at the launch of the new cover of the popular Bollywood magazine Femina, the actor shared she was always the “unwanted child” in the family.

The magazine cover features Kangana, along with her elder sister Rangoli, who survived an acid attack. “My parents had a baby boy before Rangoli, who died within 10 days of his birth. He was called Hero. They couldn’t emerge from the loss of that baby boy. But then Rangoli happened and there was a huge celebration.”

However, when Kangana was born soon after, the parents couldn’t come to terms with the fact that there was another girl in the family. “When I was born, my parents – my mother especially – couldn’t come to terms with the fact that they had another baby girl,” said Kangana, who has portrayed women-centric characters in films such as Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns. “I know these stories in detail because every time a guest visited or there was a gathering, they repeated this story in front of me, that how I was the unwanted child,” she added.

For Kangana, it was extremely difficult to live in an environment where she felt she was not wanted or her existence was a burden on the family. “It’s very hard to live in an environment where you’re constantly reminded that your existence just happens to be there. That you are not meant to be here.”
