Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is making his debut as a producer and scriptwriter with the film 99 Songs.
Financed by his production banner YM Movies, Huffington Post reports the musical documents the journey of a struggling singer aspiring to become a composer. It is, however, not Rahman's biopic.
To be released in Hindi as well as Tamil languages, the casting of the film has already begun in Mumbai.

Rahman has already composed five of the 10 songs to be featured in the film, which is expected to be released in 2017, according to the Times of India.
Reports suggested the 'Mozart of Madras' had been working on the film for the last four years, and was initially supposed to direct it as well. However, with his everlasting busy schedule, he had to hand over directorial duties to Vishwesh Krishnamurthy, the man behind season one of The Dewarists.
